Cause & Effect (*warning: creepy snake photos*)

Several weeks ago, Superman came face to face with kryptonite. He walked into his shed, turned on the light, and from the corner of his eye, noticed a line of black where it shouldn't have been. He turned around to find a snake curled around the door knob to the shed- it's body stretched across the window of the door. The same door he had just walk through in the dark. Here's a photo of him headed back out to the shed with a pellet gun.Knowing he'd protect me, I grabbed the camera and followed him outside to get a picture.
(Risking life and limb for blog-worthy stories.)
Too bad I don't have a video, or you'd be able to hear me screaming bloody-murder when I looked thru the lens and saw the snake. Zooming in made the snake a little too close for comfort!

But the good news is, that because of this:My oldest joy now has this:And because of this:My littlest joy now has this:I've taken a million pictures that I'll be back to share with you this week.

But for now, here are a couple more cute ones of the wee, little natural-born snake deterrents!

Awwwww the kittens are sooo cute!
We have cats for that very reason, they rock in their mousing(snake hunting) duties!

Yikes! Ethan is getting two kittens from my sister soon. We had our last cat for 12 years before dogs killed her. We thought with two there would be comfort in numbers. And yes, they are good at killing snakes and moles. Just be prepared to have them drag their trophies up to the house so you can praise them for it. I had never seen a mole up close and personal until we got a cat!

Well, that was me. I don't usually share my blog. But I just did. I guess it was time to come out of hiding, huh?

You KILLED It? That thing will only eat all the other THINGS you don't want in your house and garden! It won't eat YOU!! It will eat the snakes that will hurt YOU, though. Any you chopped its head off. The poor thing.

Yes ma'am Mrs. Inspired- I know that now, after I good tongue-lashing from my dear ole dad! It seems that even the scent of a black snake on the ground will keep poisonous snakes away. However, Superman says that snakes are not allowed in the shed... all rule breakers will be be-headed! He thinks that this one may have been after the bird nest a mama wren built on a shelf in his shed. It was full of baby wrens at the time!

Dana, I love your blog. You are incredibly gifted and creative. It shows. I love the pictures and your comments. Those kittens are the cutest!! Can't wait to see the kittens and garden plants. Wyatt, you're #1, Mr. Farmer; but Cameron is our #1 potato couch and "engineer-in-waiting"! Love, Mom and Grammy

WD...YOU HATE CATS! What has gotten into you?!?! I always find the great slithery critter each year. Unfortunately, the size of these monsters keep getting larger with each encounter. I can handle the worm-sized ones, but last year it was the size of a garden hose...Needless to say, I jumped right back up on the Jeep Liberty and used the cell phone to call into the house to have 'the man' take care of his living yard art. I'm not sure if I can hoist myself up on the Durango. On second thought, who am I kidding... I'd come pretty close to walking on water if I come across another slithering little sucker. Yes, I even wear shoes in the lake! :-) Keep in touch. I miss you and love you. HOESTOFALLDOGS

While my DMIL would definitely disagree with me (and obviously you and Superman), a DEAD SNAKE is the ONLY kind of snake.

And I can so understand Superman about going to the shed, in the dark and seeing something black where it wasn't supposed to be. Oh to just live in an apt in the city....but I'm a country girl at heart. :-)
