THE Yard Sale

We had a fun weekend! Over the past couple of months, I've helped the boys clean out their closet and toy bins, with the anticipation of making some money of their own. They asked to do a yard sale (my most loathed activity) with a lemonade stand. I honestly wasn't looking forward to the yard sale part, the early morning rushing around and the even earlier "early birds" that think they're going to get a better deal by coming early, but only aggravate you and get in the way! Can you tell I'm not a morning person?!?!

What I was really excited about was that the boys were ready and willing to go through their toys and do some much needed purging! I always try to go through their toys before birthdays and Christmas, but this time they did most of it themselves! I was quite a proud mama! I'll have to post some pictures later of the organizational projects we were able to tackle in their room once some space was cleared out!

My baby cousin, Em, (who is in grad school and not quite a baby anymore) hosted the yard sale at her house. That was awesome! It was great to spend the day with her. We had lots of laughs! She's a hoot! It was also great that the early birds weren't knocking on my door before it was daylight! Did I mention that as word spread through the yard sale-ing groups that Ms. Em had stacks and stacks of clothes from The Gap and American Eagle and Abercrombie and Fitch that she had priced dirt cheap, that traffic to our little yard sale really increased?

Although I'm all for going to a yard sale, just not hosting them, we'll probably try to have at least one a year for the boys. It was a hit with them. They didn't get to set up their lemonade stand, because it was FREEZING all morning, but maybe next time. They did manage to sell every, single toy and game they took! I rejoiced to know my house had a little less clutter! The boys made $80 for 4 hours of work... well honestly, about 30 minutes of work and about 3 1/2 hours of playing with Em's dog, Lucky. Oh well, I'm still rejoicing in less clutter and they rejoiced in counting their dollars!
